A New Challenge

My parents have a cute cottage on cape cod that is ready for some renovations. This weekend, Steve and I went to the cape to help assess the challenge ahead and to start some demo. Here are some before pictures and some of our preliminary plans. The major goal is have the place ready to rent for the summer and ready for us to stay for the Fourth of July. The house is your quintessential cape. I love the weathered shingles. We are planning to change the shutters to black and update the front door with a fun color. The bay windows need to be replaced and the trim needs to be sanded and painted. We may leave some of the exterior projects to the spring depending on how smoothly the changes go. The Maine Cottage Patio Project is Complete!

The Final Product We started this project over a year ago and now it's complete! See the previous post for design considerations, demo and the patio. This last stage of the project was delayed because the water level of the lake was too high to get equipment onto the beach. This included the new wall along the beach, steps up from the beach and porch stairs. All of these elements were designed to come together to create a collection of walk paths to connect the spaces together. I love how the beach wall and the stepping stones stairs come together and create a nice balance between clean, straight lines and natural curves and elements. (NOTE: The grass was just planted and is growing in nicely.) The porch stairs add nicely to the flow and allow for a walk path from the beach or patio. Furniture Transformations

At this point it's not a surprise that Steve and I enjoy the excitement of taking something old and worn and turning it into something beautiful and re-purposed.This post is a look back at all of the furniture transformations we've done in the last year of owning this house. We have quickly filled our house with these yard sale finds and are now on the hunt for furniture to fill my parents' cottage on Cape Cod. We were starting to get worried that we would have nothing to look for a yard sales and this opportunity came up! We're so happy to be able to do something that we love to help people that we love!
