My parents have a cute cottage on cape cod that is ready for some renovations. This weekend, Steve and I went to the cape to help assess the challenge ahead and to start some demo. Here are some before pictures and some of our preliminary plans. The major goal is have the place ready to rent for the summer and ready for us to stay for the Fourth of July.
The house is your quintessential cape. I love the weathered shingles. We are planning to change the shutters to black and update the front door with a fun color. The bay windows need to be replaced and the trim needs to be sanded and painted. We may leave some of the exterior projects to the spring depending on how smoothly the changes go.
The back deck needs a little power wash and some cute patio furniture.
**Notice the awesome outdoor shower! The living room flows into the kitchen and the dining room. The dining room is possibly big enough to be a den and dining room. We're still deciding how the furniture will work best as a rental property.
The carpet and linoleum will be ripped out and replaced with pergo or hardwood floors throughout.
The dining room and breakfast bar.
The kitchen....I'm not exactly sure what we're going to do in here but we'll at least paint the maroon trim and paint the wood part of the two tone cabinets. I think adding some cute knobs will add some updated style too.
We have plans to completely gut this bathroom. We'll put in new tile, toilet, sink and bathtub.
There are two bedrooms with some great built-ins. We have plans to replace the flooring and refresh the rooms with some paint and cute furniture.
This is me contemplating what to do next!
I'll be back with the progress.
Jill
