We started the day with the determination to finish the projects we started last weekend. We made a trip to home depot and Dunkin' Donuts and we were ready to go. Steve helped me fix the sewing table and then I put the final coat of paint on it.
Steve began sanding the table top with his newest toy, the belt sander.
Another coat of spray paint was applied to the file cabinets to finish that part of the desk project.
We even had time to stop at a quick yard sale where I got this chair for 2$...what a steal!
We were on a role until I remembered Steve telling me that he had seen hardwood floors under the carpet upstairs. I just couldn't get that thought out of my mind. We might as well check now while the room is in shambles...that was my logic. So...what do you think we found? Here's the before:

Steve and I knew that under the radiator had hardwoods that looked nice but what did that mean for the rest of the room? We decided to take a up a corner that could be covered up later by the couch if necessary.
At this point there were a couple decisions to make. It was apparent at this point that the carpet was attached using tack strips that were nailed to the hardwood floor and the carpet pad was stapled to the floor along the edges of the room. We felt like we could handle the removal of the carpet today. So, we kept going...
We did run into an additional row of staples in the middle of the room due to the change in carpet pad. This just meant that we would have a couple more staples to remove... no big deal.
It took only a couple hours to remove the staples and the tack stripes and get the carpet downstairs to the garage. Here are some of the after photos!
We still have some work to do with the furniture placement in this room but I'd say it's looking much better! It's now a functional room. Once we have the desk complete, we will rearrange the furniture again to accommodate the office portion of the room.
I'd say we've had a very productive day!

Whooow Nellie! Slow it down. You guys have been so busy. Love the wood floors and jealous of your sewing room. Great job to Steve for all the furniture he's been making.
ReplyDeleteWow! Looks like a new room. I like the updated sewing table. Grammy will be so happy that you are sewing and using her things.
