Summer Update

There has been a lot of progress on both our own house and the cottage during the summer. Here's a quick update on the big accomplishments.

We replaced the front windows with beautiful new windows in a smaller size.  This gave the house an updated feel and makes the living room surprisingly feel bigger.  Due to the change in the size of the windows, we had to frame out the opening and then add new shingles to the exterior.

I inherited this dresser from our wonderful neighbors across the street. It was stained wood before I got it.  I decided to go bold on the color choice and I really love it.  It's a cottage, so I like the idea of fun, bright colors.
Here's the dining room.  All of this furniture came from my grandparents home in cotuit.  I think it looks great in here.  I painted the dresser blue to give another fun pop of color and added vintage knobs.
Here's another view of the living room with the new windows.  This is still a work in progress but the transformation is already pretty amazing.
The back deck has been power washed and now has cute chairs and a grill. We've already used this space a ton!
The bathroom is the last big project on the list.  It's been challenging to tackle this since we only have one bathroom in the house.  Dad was able to change out the old vanity and sink for a new one which is a much needed upgrade.  We still need to do the major renovation which will include adding a tile floor, removing the red tile and putting up bead board, and getting a new tub surround.
It hasn't been all work.  We were all there for the fourth and we able to to see Kristin and her husband Jason. It was great to spend time with them and take some time to enjoy the progress we've made at the house.
In other news, we haven't done a lot around our house but we are getting ready for some house guests.  Our great friends, the Thors and their little one are coming to visit.  In preparation we thought it would be fun to try our other slipcovers for the couches.  Here's what our living room looks like with gray couches instead of white.
We also put some pictures up on the walls in the guest room and got some new bedding. Hopefully our guests will feel at home.
That's all for now.  I hope to be back soon with my summer flower post.  The gardens are in full bloom and I love to document that to look how much has changed over the years.

Steve and I just celebrated our 5 year anniversary by having dinner at the oaks.  It was great being there and trying to think of what we were doing 5 years ago.  Such great memories!  This is a picture of Steve with the driving range in the background after dinner.
