The Final Product
We started this project over a year ago and now it's complete! See the previous post for design considerations, demo and the patio. This last stage of the project was delayed because the water level of the lake was too high to get equipment onto the beach. This included the new wall along the beach, steps up from the beach and porch stairs. All of these elements were designed to come together to create a collection of walk paths to connect the spaces together.
I love how the beach wall and the stepping stones stairs come together and create a nice balance between clean, straight lines and natural curves and elements. (NOTE: The grass was just planted and is growing in nicely.)
The porch stairs add nicely to the flow and allow for a walk path from the beach or patio. I love how they turned out (and it's great to have access to the porch again!).
The stepping stones are the coolest part of the whole design...potentially because I really didn't understand how this was going to look. Our partners at Landscape Design knew exactly the look they were going for and nailed it. Something that looks like it could have naturally been there but allows for anyone to walk up and down safely. This design element is both practical and beautiful.
In Process Pictures
Here are some in-process pictures. It's amazing to see the equipment needed to pull this off!
Once the water was low enough to get the tractor down on the beach it was a mad dash to get the wall completed. The wall was completed in around 3 days of work.
The next stage was placing the stepping stones to create the winding path from the beach up to the patio and house. This was the artistic part of the job that required careful selection and placement of each stone to create a staircase.
Before and After
Before / After: Replaced the wall along the beach with stacked pavers for safety and clean lines. We added the granite steps in the middle of the wall to allow for a walk path to the flat section of grass where we could add seating or play cornhole.
Before / After: Replaced the old steps that were sinking into the ground and consisted of wood and bricks with beautiful large stepping stones.
