The Christmas vacation has given Steve and I plenty of time to figure out our next project for our own house. We've been thinking a lot about the cottage but we have plenty of work to do right here in the 603. This blog is meant to show the good, the bad, and the ugly. We've been lucky enough with this home that we've had mostly just fun renovations and transformations but we now have a slight problem that we need to address. The basement floor is a linoleum and wasn't attached to the basement floor properly. This created a situation where moisture could get trapped between the two layers. We decided to take up the floor on the side of the basement that will continue to be the rough side for the tools/storage and paint the concrete. Here are pictures before and during. We are still using a dehumidifier to make sure that there's no moisture and then we plan to clean, prime and paint the floor. We'll be back with more progress.
Yikes! The floor is gone and its not pretty.
On the other side of the basement, there's something a little more fun going on. The wood paneling has never been our style and its finally time to get rid of it. We decided that painting the paneling a light gray and changing the color of the wainscoting from green to white would be a great transformation.
Here's the lovely wood paneling in its natural state....
In preparation for this project, we went to Home Depot to get supplies. We picked up BIN knot primer to help us with the knots in the wood, regular primer, white paint for the trim and wainscoting and a couple gray paint samples. We've learned that its pretty tough to pick out the perfect wall color without seeing it in the space first.
First we applied the BIN to the knots...
Then we rolled the walls with primer...
This is when we started to get really excited about the idea of no more wood paneling.
In this picture, which you can barely see, are the three colors of gray that we picked. We may need to try some darker colors. We're hoping they dry a little darker.
Tomorrow we're going to try to get the rest of the walls primed. I can't wait to see what it looks like at the end! We have a lot of walls to cover... Look at those built ins and the stairway!
Hopefully I'll have more to share tomorrow.Jill
