Granite Exchange

Work has been crazy lately and therefore I am way behind in posting on our progress.  For some reason they don't understand that the renovation of our house should be top priority. 

Steve and I have been working to figure out what we want our kitchen to look like.  Here are two inspirational photos that seem to capture what we're going for.  We already have the white cabinets picked out and on the way.  The countertops have been a major design decision that we've been wavering on.  It seems like all of the photos that we love have the black countertops, so that is the direction we're headed right now. 

This kitchen has it all: white cabinets, black countertops, black knobs, stainless steel appliances, light green walls, and even some cottage accessories.

This past Saturday, Steve and I took a trip to the Granite Exchange to take a look at our choices for the countertops.  There were some crazy choices but we knew that we wanted something dark.  After checking out all of the possibilities I think we've selected something for now.  The color that we like right now is called Absolute Black.

 The kitchen looks a little scary right now but the vision is there.  Now that we have the kitchen down to the studs, we are making decisions like: where to locate recessed lighting, how we want the lights to be switched, what lighting fixtures to use, etc. Here's a look at what we're currently working with in the kitchen.

Luckily the ReStore is coming tomorrow to pick up the old cabinets.

Progress has been slowing down in terms of what Steve and I have been focused on.  It feels good to have a bunch of the immediate items off the to-do list.  I still have a bit more gardening to do but that is, of course, on-going and then the furniture will be gradual as well.

More posts will be up this weekend too with progress, now that I have some much needed blogging time.
